Newsletter No:__333 July 2010

Dear Members

As the mercury in the barometer continues to climb, it seems somewhat incongruous to draw your attention to several forth-coming events which will, no doubt, involve us turning out in duffel coats and mufflers then scraping the ice off our windscreens when we leave! However, at the moment, we can all bask in this glorious sunshine.

Electric Theatre 2012

A decision has been made NOT to stage a production here in 2012 as it was felt there was not enough interest. This does not imply that no further productions will ever be staged there and the situation will be reviewed again next year concerning 2013.

Noda

Our current SE representative, Danny Sparkes, has resigned and a replacement is being sought. Would anyone be interested in this vocational position – no stipend but plenty of free amateur theatre – could be fun.

Please contact Liz for more information.

Summer Play Reading – 11th June
11 people enjoyed reading ‘The Dark Horse’ by Rosemary Anne Sissons. Thanks to Penny and Richard for their kind hospitality, including delicious nibbles.

Ewhurst Carnival 24th July
We have agreed to take part in this year’s carnival with the theme of “The Good Old Days”. The procession will not include floats but simply be on foot. Our theme is to be an Edwardian garden party suggested by Marian and we suggest participating members dress appropriately with blazers and boaters for the men, old fashioned floral sun hats and dresses for the ladies – carrying old style picnic baskets, flower baskets, tennis rackets, croquet sticks etc.etc. All involved in this procession are asked to meet on Ewhurst Green at 11.30am near the telephone box. Judging will take place at 11.45am and procession commences at noon. Parking will be limited so best organise to park cars in friend’s gardens. In addition we are running a £50 stall for which we will now have a team of volunteers. For further information on this village fun day please ring Liz Foley on 01483 275965

2 for 1 Ticket Offer
This offer currently applies to two West End productions, ‘Dirty Dancing’ at The Aldwych Theatre (020 7907 7077) and ‘Tap Dogs’ starring Adam Garcia at The Novello Theatre (020 7907 7077). Please contact Liz Foley for further information.

Picnic in the Park

Weather permitting, this will take place on the Recreation Ground near the new EYSC at 4p.m. on Sunday 15th August. Who knows – this may be the highlight of your social calendar – you will never know unless you attend in the spirit of the event! BYO picnic, chairs, rugs, etc Also bring games e.g. stoolball, cricket, kites, frisbees – the list is endless. It doesn’t matter if you are 2 or 82 – just come along to catch up on each other’s news.
A weather check decision to go ahead with this event will be made at noon but if unsure, ring Bruce on 01483 – 277863 (after midday).

Play Reading – 23rd August

Our next informal play reading will be “Technical Rehearsal” by Alan Marshall at Jeannie’s (Springfold, Mapledrakes Rd) at 7p.m.

Allo ‘Allo – November 16th,17th,18th,19th & 20th

Wendy would like to thank all those who attended and contributed to two very successful audition sessions, in particular Anne Lyth and George Yates who joined her on the casting committee. If the fun and laughter already created is carried forward through rehearsals to the production in November then we will all be in for a treat. Sadly, with so many people, nearly 30, competing for parts, there will be the inevitable disappointment for some.
However, do not despair, all are invited to participate in some way or another, either front of house, catering, set building, back stage etc. Please do not feel left out – we need all the help available. Again many thanks to all those who have already offered their services. For further information call Wendy and/or Leighton on 01483 277361 or email
