Dear Members
Well, what a busy Autumn it has been again for Ewhurst Players. It is hard to believe this is already the last newsletter before Christmas is upon us.
Firstly, I am sure you would all like to join me in congratulating Mike on the splendid Production of “Happy as a Sandbag”.
He was a very brave man to take it on: a huge cast; live band; choreography; three supper evenings to cater for, etc. etc. It is hardly surprising that many of us involved felt it would never come together! But, “come together” it did (at the very last minute) and what a smashing production it proved to be. The capacity audiences on all five nights thoroughly enjoyed the Show – almost as much as those in it!
Everybody worked so hard, and we would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way, but especially Mike for all his hard work and for having the idea, together with the courage and conviction to pull it off; Victoria who worked tirelessly in so many different ways as his Assistant; Anne, Jean and Cyn for the enormous amount of work put into the fantastic costumes; Bob for his superb sound effects, which complimented by Peter’s lighting helped to create such a wonderful atmosphere; Muriel for creating such effective choreography and for her endless patience with a largely “two-left footed” cast; the Band for providing such rousing music; Di, Marilyn and their catering team for providing three magnificent supper evenings; and last but not least Jeannie (and Sarah) for all the work they did in trying to accommodate all those who wanted tickets. But thank you also to all of you not mentioned by name.
Bruce, with Helen’s help, organised a raffle with a difference, in keeping with the theme of the evening. Continuing our Policy of recent years, it was decided to donate the Friday night raffle takings of £200 to charity and on this occasion your Committee felt it would be appropriate to make this donation to the charity “Help for Heroes”.
The Production over, Bob has now produced a DVD. Anybody involved with the Show who would like a copy should contact him on 01483 275965 and he will be happy to provide you with a copy either for the sum of 50p, or in exchange for a blank DVD.
Lost Property Jeannie has in her possession a green scarf that was left behind by either a cast member or a member of the audience. If you think it may be yours, please ring her on 01483 277831. And so, we now look forward to the pantomime:
“Treasure Island” – 21st – 30th January 2010. Rehearsals are already under way and Jeannie has had meetings with most of her backstage staff.
Set Building and Painting The first set building and painting day will be this Sunday 13th December at 9.00 a.m. Please spare an hour or so and come along to help if you can. It is hoped to put up the flats; ensure the sliders are working well; re-assemble the stairs; “white out” the flats and cut outs (and hopefully draw out the cut outs) on Sunday – so all set builders and painters welcome. We may need an “artist” to draw out the cut outs, but the remainder of the painting will be merely to “white out” existing flats – so anybody who can wield a paintbrush is very welcome.
Jeannie has asked me to mention that we are always immensely grateful to our set builders and painters and to tell you she knows as well as any of our regular set painters what important tasks these are.
The cast list was published in the October Newsletter. Since then, Lewis Keen has had to withdraw, but Jeannie is delighted to welcome Gillian Steele.
There has been a good response to requests for backstage help and the following volunteers have come forward:
