WELCOME TO EWHURST PLAYERS

Nestled at the foot of the Surrey Hills, we're a company of cheery folk with a love of drama. We like to do things well while at the same time embracing new actors and singers at all levels, young and old. So, if you fancy treading the boards with us, just get in touch with our Secretary, Georgina Rushworth, at secretary@ewhurstplayers.com

A company that's part of the community

Looking back over the last 40 years the Ewhurst Players has staged many successful, innovative and memorable productions.

We started small. Our first production featured a mere £10 lighting board with two modes: on and off. Our first pantomime saw actors in self-made costumes and a chorus of ducks clad in swimming flippers painted yellow. Our first step into serious drama was A Man for All Seasons. We sold few tickets for the first performance but on the following morning the telephones started to ring and from there we sold out. Our reputation grew.

Over the years Ewhurst Players has won nine NODA awards. Notably innovative and aware productions were Time of my Life and Becket which were performed theatre-in-the-round style.  There's also a high standard of costume, set design and stage effects. The production of Witness for the Prosecution won an award for its very realistic court scene (the scenery was later loaned out to other groups). One reviewer wrote of a production: ”These are the best backstage, set and costume crews in the business.” More recently, our November 2016 production of Voyage Around My Father also received the NODA accolade of excellence.  And in January 2020, Oliver impressed with scenery of lamp-lit streets, a Victorian London skyline back drop and artfully realised London Bridge.

Members of Ewhurst Players have over the years also performed a number of anthologies, (programmes of poems, readings and music) both in the village church and village hall, commemorating great events, from VE day to the Golden Jubilee, WW1 to The Millennium.

From the beginning Ewhurst Players has been a company that was part of the community. We have always been prepared to put on performances to raise funds for village events. Each year we give generously from our funds to both local and national charities. We also support the village hall, both financially, and on many occasions, practically, by decorating, updating and improving it. After all, it's very much our home. The founding members helped to improve and refurbish the Green Room area. They have installed both a fine lighting and sound system which is also used by other organisations and users of the hall.

If you would like to find out how you can get with the Ewhurst Players either on or off stage OR if you are interested in becoming a member, please contact the secretary.
